The Bay of Meldorf

beach West of the town in the Speicherkoog you find a spacious coastal area. There is almost endless space behind the green dikes where you can watch low and high tides. You can sunbathe but sometimes you may have to withstand the wind of the North Sea. At low tide the mud-flats invite you to go for a walk in the famous bracing sea air.

On the beaches in Elpersbüttel and Nordermeldorf you can go swimming in the sea to let the waves wash round you. If you come in autumn and winter there's a stiff breeze to free your soul. Beginners and advanced wind-surfers and kite-surfers find an ideal surfing area in the 'speicher lake' of the polder and also in front of the dike. Those who are fond of sailing will enjoy the sailing area as it is shaped by the tides. Most of all, those who love nature will find real paradise in the Speicherkoog among nature reserves inland and the national park of Schleswig Holstein seaward, a reserve for rare birds and plants.
