Culture, arts and crafts
The international Cathedral concerts and the concerts of the Schleswig-Holstein music festival are cultural highlights for friends of fine music every summer. There is a special atrnosphere in the biggest church building of the west coast with its Gothic architecture built in brick and its famous 'Marcussen organ'. The 'Landes' theatre and other stage performances are changing the ballroom of the 'Erheiterung' or the Dithmarschenhalle' continually into theatres.
The place für cabaret is a cultural pub called, 'Bornholdt', amateur theatre takes place in the 'Ditmarsia'. You can find art exhibitions in the 'Neuen Holländerei' at the agriculture museum, in the 'Landesmuseum' and in the "Domcafe'. If you are interested in arts and crafts you have to visit the goldsmith in the 'Domgoldschmiede', the 'Dithmarscher Museumswerkstätten' where you can watch the old weaving handcraft and can buy interesting woven articles.
Old arts and crafts are kept in the windmill 'Ursula' in Barlt. There is still a miller who keeps the wheels turning regularly. You can watch and be astonished as the grinding with a windmill is a kind of art.
